Even before the completion of construction of 147.5km Fufulso- Damongo-Sawla road which traverse three districts, namely central Gonja, West and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba districts of the northern region, communities along the stretch have started benefiting from the package contract.
Make-shift educational structures have been upgraded to modern classroom blocks with solar panels and water reservoirs.
Small scale business operators in the area have now heaved a sigh of relief, with the construction of the road which has now made vehicular movement very easy and this has helped to boost economic activities of traders and businesses of communities along the road.
As part of the package of the project,auxiliary structures such as clinics, schools and ultra modern market complex have been built to address some of the social needs of the people,which was in response to the needs assessment conducted by the Govenment.
The road which will serve as the main entry point to Upper West Region is constructed by WE ,a chinese construction firm has brought a lot of relief to travelers plying the road since the number of hours has been reduce drastically from seven to about 3 hours .
It has also reduced the rate of robberies and accidents on the road.
Prior to the award of contractwas awarded to the Chinese construction company, WE, motorist were using six to seven hours from Tamale to Damongo in the west Gonja district and Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district.
Workers at the beneficiary districts told Zaa News it will improved productivity in the area.
The road which starts from fufulso junction in central Gonja district through Sawla was awarded on contract to the Chinese construction firm, WE construction company by the National DEmocratic COngress government.
The road is being financed by the African Development Bank (ADB).
Package of the contract include construction of markets, clinics and schools.
Communities without schools or school under threes are provided with those facilities.
