Youth groups of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Regional are mounting pressure on the national and regional executives to comment on the ongoing damaging leaked tape making rounds in the Ghanaian media. The youth expressed regret about the long silence of some national executives who are being mentioned in the leaked tape of NDC bribing top NPP gurus.
The latest to join the fray is a youth group called, the Concern Youth of NPP in the region. The group said the continued silence of NPP national chair Paul Afoko, general secretary Kwabena Agyepong and northern regional NPP chairman, Daniel Bugri Naabu gives credence that divisions exist in the party.
Such division, the youth observe, will not help the party’s aim of winning 2016 general elections. Many NPP supporters were shocked in hearing the news on the tape suspected to be voices of Bugri Naabu making rounds that, the younger brother of the president of Ghana, Ibrahim Mahama has bribed the national chairman and the general secretary with an amount of 200 thousand Ghana cedis.
The said tape also captured the regional chairman at saying both bodyguards and drivers of Mr Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agypong were both the national security. He also claimed that both are card bearing members of the ruling NDC.
The bride, according to the tape making rounds, was to enable the two top NPP men to campaign during their internal contest last year which saw them emerge winners.
The tape also disclosed that, Mr Afoko, Kwabena Agypong and Sammie Crabbe are not to be trusted for that matter they are going to be sidelined in the 2016 elections. He went further to state that, himself (Daniel Bugri Naabu) Freddie Blay the first vice, the party’s running mate Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Nana Addo, Nassara coordinator Abdulai Kamldeen, Sammy Awuku John Boadu national organizer, the orther 9 regional chairmen and some selected NPP parliamentarians would be the core of the 2016 campaign without the involvement of Mr Afoko and Kwabena Agypong.
He revealed that the above met at secrete location and took a decisions on behalf of the party which subsequently imposed on the national executives.
In the said tape, Bugri Naabu again is captured at saying ’’neither Paul Afoko nor Kwabena Agypong are interested in Naa Akuffo Addo becoming president of Ghana.
But in a statement signed by Haruna Eliyasu, said patriots of the party have waited for response from at least one of the names mentioned but to avail and describes it as worrying. ’’Can you imagine and anticipate the chaos that would greet NPP in an electioneering year?’’ the youth asked.
The party’s flagbearer Nana Addo, the youth said, is noted for being a unifier and also extends helping hands to his opponents after every internal contest.
The content of the tape, the statement said, is divisive and does not smack of a party that is poised for victory for 2016 and urged Nana Addo to disassociate himself from it.
The statement said, as concerned youths of the party, they observe that all is not well with NPP at the top and fear it will trickle down to the grassroots if measures are not put in place to curtail it.
