The Mion District Assembly in the Northern Region has assured personnel of the Ghana Police Service of decent accommodation.
The assurance follows residential and office accommodation confronting the personnel in Sang, the district capital of Mion.
The assembly since its inauguration some two years ago met unused buildings some of which were in a deplorable state including the Sang police station.
As an infant district couple with delays in releasing the assembly’s common fund, the assembly decided to focus on rehabilitation of the existing structures for some staff members and the security in the district by using its scanty Internal Generated Fund (IGF).
Since the district started operation it has been receiving security protection from the Yendi divisional police command due to accommodation problems. Place of abode, for officers manning the Sang barrier, is the tent structure at the barrier and after ending their shift of guarding the barrier, they have to return to Yendi.
To address these problems, the assembly has put up a plan for four-single-room accommodations with auxiliary facilities and semi-detached quarters for a senior police officer.
Speaking exclusively to Zaa News, District Chief Executive for Mion, Dan Mankandan said after assuming office as DCE, he took it upon himself to ensure that the police have decent residential accommodation.
