The Savelugu/Nanton Municipal Assembly has honored twenty deserving senior citizens who have contributed immensely to the development of the municipality.
Among the 20 honored were ex-servicesmen, retired educationists, retired public servants, chiefs and women who played critical role in the development of the area.
The honor was an initiative of the assembly aimed at identifying the elderly in the savelugu municipality and also to harness the rich experience of the old men and women.

At a ceremony organized by the Savelugu/Nanton municipal assembly to celebrate the 54th republic day, the assembly presented provisions, cloths and certificates to the senior citizens in the area for their invaluable contributions. The assembly says it will continue to identify people who contributed their quota in diverse ways and honor them accordingly.
The 2014 senior citizens awards day ceremony is the first since the inception of the then Savelugu/Nanton district before elevating it to a municipality status.
The senior citizens thanked the assembly for recognizing their existence in the society. A retired educationist and the Chief of Moglaa, Naa Iddrisu Andani said the ceremony is unique because it brought them together to interact and share ideas.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu/Nanton, Alhassan Abdulai Red said the assembly recognizes the important role the elderly people are playing in uplifting the municipality.
