The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini has bemoaned what he called the precarious over reliance on the district assembly common fund by the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region.
In 2014, only three districts out of the 26 MMDAs in the region met their revenue target.
Addressing members of the Mion district assembly during the inauguration ceremony at Sang, Alhaji Fuseini said instead of the assemblies devising means of mobilizing revenue, they rely on common fund and any delay in releasing it brings some assemblys’ activities to a halt. He charged the assembly members to beware of the task ahead of them as honorable men and women in championing the developmental agenda in their various electoral areas.
He emphasized the need for assembly members to come out with innovative ideas that will improve the revenue base. The deputy minister also made a passionate appeal to the new assembly members to comport themselves and learn how to internalize information because as he put it, it is not every information you should to relate to the public. “If you were a drunkard, please stop before you are ridiculed by the society, there is no law asking you to stop but you are viewed as a responsible person and you must behave as such,” the deputy minister advised.
“Follow your own rules, don’t jump the rules, matters of the assembly are matters of the assemblies and not for public consumption through the media,” Alhaji A.B.A cautioned.
As a new assembly, divisiveness among members should be eschewed and unity of purpose promoted. The divisions hurt the people assembly members serve.
Fuseini reminded them about the numerous developmental challenges in the district in the area of water, education, health, sanitation and roads and how collectively they can address them.
One the major challenge facing the assemblies according to the deputy regional minister was the unplanned nature of most 
cities and towns and urged the assemblies to liaised with the town and country planning unit to plan the cities properly to avert flooding situations in the region.
