MTN earmarks 1million cedis to empower Persons Living With Disabilities

Telecom giant MTN Ghana has earmarked Ghc1 million to train and set up 100 members of the Ghana Federation of Persons With Disability.

The selected disabled persons from the Federation would be equipped with skills such as customer relations and how to operate mobile money centers.

Each beneficiary according to MTN Ghana would be given Ghc4,000 free including equipment to set up their centers.

The General Manager in charge of MTN Mobile Money Financial Service, Mr. Eli Hini disclosed this in Tamale during the official launch of the MTN Momo 10th anniversary.

The anniversary logo was also unveiled which preceded with cutting of cake.

MTN he said placed priority on economic empowerment and they would continue to train more youth in skills development to be self-sufficient and also manage their own businesses.

He also assured the public that MTN mobile platform is safe and customers must also ensure that their wallets are secured so that nobody gains access to their money without their knowledge or permission.

According to him, the company had invested heavily to improve the Momo platform and it was incumbent on customers to be careful.

Mr. Hini advised against customers giving out their protect their Momo PINs to agents during transactions.

He explained that, with the advancement of technology, the second person can manipulate your phone and withdraw monies without the account holder’s knowledge.

“Under no circumstances should you give your PIN out, not even your wife or husband unless in extreme situations,” Mr Eli Hindi advised.

He also pleaded with customers to learn how to do Momo transactions by themselves.

Mr Hini said even though fraud cases were a bit minimal now, the network was not taking any chances and had decided to partner with the Ghana Police Service to setup a forensic lab.

The forensic lab, he explained was not only to deal with fraud issues but also to help mitigate all cyber related crimes and other forms of criminal investigations.

Over 30 customers who came to the launch at the Tamale taxi rank on time received Ghc250 on their phones from MTN Ghana.

One of the lucky customers expressed his gratitude to MTN for the gift. “I will use the 250 to buy my son one year birthday party gift.”

Lucky customers as part of the MTN mobile money 10th anniversary would receive brand new cars and other prizes from now till the last day of June 2019.

Meanwhile, according to the Bank of Ghana, as at December 2017, 11 million Ghanaians were on mobile money and MTN leads with 8 million customers.
