The President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama has emphasized the need for the promotion of smock wearing in the country.
According to Mr. Mahama, smock wearing will not only boost economic activities, it will also enrich the culture of the three regions of the north which are blessed with beautiful smocks.
Speaking at the Fugu or smock show at the 20th edition of the Ghana International Trade Fair in Tamale, the President recalled how other heads of states at high level meetings outside Ghana have started admiring the northern smock and have even showed interest in wearing it.
The smock show which was one of the sessions at the first ever international trade fair in the region saw players in the industry from northern, upper east and upper west regions displaying different smocks at the Tamale sports stadium. President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to improving the lives of people of the SADA zone.
He commended SADA and the Ghana Trade Fair Company for organizing the fair in Tamale and pledged government’s support to such programs in future.
