Transport operators creating problems for yet to be named Tamale Mayor

Even before the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appoints the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, players in the transport sector are urging him to re-plan the city to ensure sanity on the roads.

The transport operators say the new Tamale mayor needs to put in place measures that will ensure that vehicles and tricycles operating in the city have dedicated parking places.

Executives of Abgerisa Express, one of the tricycles Operators popularly called Yellow Yellow told Zaa News that they are waiting patiently for the new Tamale mayor to lay their concerns before him or her.

According to the tricycle operators, their contribution to the revenue of the assembly cannot be overlooked and any move to streamline their operation will go a long way to improve revenue generation to develop the city.

The Chairman of Agberisa Express, Mr. Mohammed Abukari said some issues that nearly marred their business are still pending and hoped that whoever is appointed as Tamale mayor will consider the economic activities and livelihoods of the people.

Mr. Abukari mentioned the strong opposition of taxi drivers against their operations and the continued verbal assaults as one of their major concern.

The Abgerisa express chairman warned that the threats by some taxi drivers that they will drive them away will not stand because Tamale is not for only a section or a group of people.

Touching on the growing concerns about minors operating the tricycles, Mr. Abukari made a passionate appeal to parents to withdraw such teenagers for the sake of their education, which he said is the determining factor of their future.

The secretary of the association, Alhaji Ibrahim Iddrisu told Zaa News that the leadership of the association has tried its best to prevent minors from operating the tricycles but parents and those who bought the tricycles for the children have a major role to play in addressing the problem.
