Don’t engage in politics of insults – Tolon chief warns

Paramount chief of Tolon Traditional area, Major retired Alhaji Sulemana Abubakar has advised politicians to conduct their campaigns with decorum devoid of insults and name calling in this year’s elections.

The Tolon chief reminded politicians that, as chiefs, they are behind every aspirant because they are barred by Ghana’s constitution from actively participating in active partisan politics and that it behooves on them to conduct themselves well before, during and after their primaries and the general elections.

He also reminded aspirants in the forthcoming primaries that, under no circumstances should they be divided either on family lines or friendship in Dagbon because of politics.

He cautioned politicians to desist from riding on chieftaincy to win power as this practice has not helped in fostering unity in Dagbon.

Major retired Sulemana gave the advice when the incumbent Member of Parliament for Tolon, Alhaji Abdul Wahab Suhiyini Wumbei paid a courtesy call on him to inform him about filing of his nomination and seeking for his blessings last Saturday. 

The chief caution supporters of the various political parties in the area, especially the youth to behave well if their preferred candidates lose in the upcoming Parliamentary election.

Strong faith, the chief observed distances a person far away from evil thinking and creating of confusion. The Almighty Allah, the Tolon chief noted is the only judge and not even either President Akufo-Addo or former President John Dramani Mahama can defend them should they go against Allah’s will.

He also pleaded with the people in Dagbon to endeavor to support the regime of the Ya Na, Mahama Abukari II to ensure peaceful Dagbon for accelerated development.

Dagbon he said will continue to exist as a kingdom but political leaders will come and go and anyone with the motive of disturbing the peace in Dagbon must think twice.

On his part, the incumbent MP for Tolon who is seeking for another term assured the chief of decent campaign from his team.

Alhaji Abdul Wahab Suhiyini stated that he is ready together with the DCE to campaign for anyone among the four who emerges as a winner and expressed the hope that the other three aspirants will do same should he win.
