The King of Dagbon, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II has appealed to President Nana Akufo Addo to equip the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) to befit the standard of the hospital.
He said “The upgrading and installation of the right equipment and the necessary staffing complement are what we are looking forward to achieving.”
“It is regrettable that for want of appropriate in the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) and other hospitals in the region, emergency, and other critical cases have to be driven, even at odd hours, to Techiman or Sunyani, in different regions for scans before returning for treatment. We hope your Excellency will intervene to have this sad situation addressed soon,” he added.
The king is of the hope that government will also consider upgrading the Yendi Government Hospital to a more modern facility, to posit it to deliver medical services to the surrounding districts on the eastern corridor stretch, since it’s already serves as a referral center for those areas.
The Yendi Hospital Ya-Na revealed is currently understaffed which is making their work difficult for the few dedicated staff.
“It is our appeal that the Ministry of Health posts additional doctors and other medical staff to augment those of the hospital.”
Another significant challenge Dagbon is faced with, the King said is the deplorable state of the road networks in the region.
“These include the Tamale-Karaga road, the Tamale-Salaga road, Tamale-Saboba, Yendi-Chereponi road, and the Yendi-Tatale road leading to Togo. The rest include Karaga-Tong-Sung road, Saboba-Wapuli road, and the major trunk road, the eastern corridor stretch, through Bimbila to the south.
“The construction and compilation of these trunk roads will accelerate socio-economic development, ease the pain of farmers, and shorten the traveling time of our people. Related to the road network is the desire of the people to have your government expedite action on the proposed railway project that will connect Tamale and Yendi to other major cities in the country.”
The Ya-Na is of strong conviction that with adequate investment in the Sheini Iron ore deposits, some of the challenges in Dagbon will be addressed so the people of Dagbon and Ghana as whole will receive the full benefits of the resources.
Addressing the gathering at the Damba festival in Yendi, the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured the Ya-Na of the upgrading of the TTH and the Yendi Government Hospital to a befitting status.
The President revealed he has inaugurated the governing board of the Ghana Integrated Iron and Steel Development Corporation, under the chairmanship of Prince Imoro Andani, whose purpose is to exploit and add value to the country’s considerable iron ore deposits at Oppon Manso and Sheini.
On the deplorable state of the road networks in the Northern Region and in all part of the country,President Akufo-Addo indicated that his government has embarked on an aggressive program of implementation of addressing the road deficit.
“Great development in Dagbon are ahead, and it is critical, therefore, that there must be peace. My government is determined to open up the country with the provision of adequate roads, rail and air networks, so that no part of the country can be said to be too far from anywhere,” he stressed.
