The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Northern Region has condemned the brutal assault on Zaa Multimedia reporter, Dokurugu Abubakar Ndeeya. The incident occurred on Thursday, May 16, 2024, while the reporter was attempting to film a brawl between New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and a police officer.

According to management of Zaa Multimedia, Ndeeya was violently attacked by four NPP supporters at the premises of the Modern City Hotel where the ruling party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on a campaign tour, engaged the Clergy and the Northern Region House of Chiefs. The assault was captured on camera, and the reporter was rescued by bystanders at the scene.

In a statement, the GJA Northern Region expressed profound dismay over the incident, describing it as distressing and archaic act of violence. The association urged leaders, especially politicians, to denounce such behavior and to promote a culture of respect and civility.

The GJA has called on the Northern Regional Police Command to use all legitimate means to apprehend the culprits and ensure they face legal consequences. The association pledged to work closely with law enforcement to ensure justice is served.

Yakubu Abdul-Majeed, Chairman of the GJA Northern Region, emphasized the organization’s commitment to protecting journalists and allowing them to perform their duties without fear or intimidation. He also highlighted the importance of journalists adhering to high ethical standards in their work.
