Government Commends Tolon Chief For His Firm Stand During Dagbon Peace Process

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Salifu Saeed has commended the Paramount Chief of Tolon Traditional area, Major (Retired) Sulemana Abukari for his mediation role during the implementation of Dagbon peace road map.

According to the minister, the Tolon chief put aside all his personal interests and put Dagbon peace first which is recommendable.

Mr Saeed was speaking at the launch of an intervention campaign against malaria by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), dubbed ‘Seasonal Chemoprevention’ (SMC). The SMC is one of the interventions aimed at reducing malaria in children aged 3-59 months.

Trained volunteers are expected to intermittently administer antimalarial medicines to children in areas in the region noted with high seasonal transmission of malaria.

Addressing chiefs and people in the area, Mr Saeed assured the people of the government commitment in addressing their challenges.

He told the people that peace is pivotal in every development and commended the Chief of Tolon for the hard decisions he took during the Dagbon road map to peace.

He hinted that the president, who is due to visit the region this month is likely to visit Tolon area to inspect progress of work at the state-of the art district hospital currently under construction.
