Government Won’t Interfere in Bimbilla Chieftaincy-Minister reiterated

The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Salifu Saeed has reiterated the NPP government’s commitment not to interfere in chieftaincy related issues in the region.

He said the selection of a chief is the preserve of the traditional authorities and no politician including president Akufo-Addo has the right to decide who becomes a chief. Mr. Saeed was speaking during a tour of the Nanun Traditional Area yesterday.

He paid courtesy calls on the Bimbilla Regent, the family of late Nakpaa Naa and the Wulensi chief.

The Minister at the various palaces called for concerted efforts to ensure peace in Nanun and the region at large. He warned government will ensure security agencies deal ruthlessly with people who will want to hide under politics to spark chieftaincy conflicts in any of the major kingdoms in the region.

Mr. Saeed indicated that government will speedily implement the policy of Agricultural mechanization and calls on the Regent of Bimbilla to make land available for investors to take advantage of the policy.

Meanwhile the Regent of Bimbilla Yeliboligu Naa Yakubu Dasana has indicated that their position as chiefs is a birth right and not by ballot, exams or choice.

He called on government to ensure chiefs and traditional rulers are adequately protected.
