National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr Sammy Awuku has reiterated the party’s position in support of a new voter register.
Mr Awuku said the NPP will continue to encourage its members to come out and register the new voter ID cards electoral commission has announced to conduct.
The NPP he said is convinced that a new voter register was something they cannot negotiate on. The NPP national organizer was addressing the media at the party’s regional headquarters in Tamale.
Mr Awuku was in Tamale as part of his five days working visit to the north to train party executives on the upcoming registration exercise and preparation made as far the voter register was concerned.
The NPP the supremo as his affectionately called was convinced that the process of new voter register will be smooth without any hitches.
Justifying the party’s stands, Mr Awuku cited the 2013 Supreme Court verdict portions which indicated the voter register need to be clean.
The NPP Mr Awuku said, believes that some people can still use dead people whose names are were in the register.
The electoral he argued failed to delete over 585,000 dead Ghanaian names the Supreme ordered to do so.
Mr Awuku told the media the party could not understand why the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) were ‘spiritually attach’ to the current voter register and were jealously guiding it.
The party he stated will campaign on their four years record in all sectors of the economy.
Mr Awuku warned that the party will not allow their hands to be tied.

According to Mr Awuku, the only consistent to the NDC argument has been that, the new register cost was too high and the time was too short but the EC has explained in details.
‘We are convinced that if all over us will go into the elections with our hands clean and believing our campaign on the strength of our record both NPP and NDC, the Ghanaian people will weigh us.
‘The NPP believes they have down well in the last 3 and half years ‘ Mr Awuku stated.
What the NPP will not agreed he said is for people to tied hands to tied, intimidates them and the Ghanaian people.
He also slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the position against the register for what he described as deliberate attempts to incite the people of the north against the electoral commission.
He alleged that some of the statements made by the leadership of the NDC led the general secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia during their tour were quite deadly.
According to him, it is not fair the NDC to always resort to the use of thugery and violence when it comes to pushing the democratic ideas.
He cited South Korea, Burundi and Malawi as countries that successful elections under covid-19 pandemic.
Ivory cost is having their elections in October and yet they compelling a new voter register on 12 June.
