Two District Chief Executives (DCEs) who contested in the NPP orphan constituency primaries over the weekend won to be the parliamentary candidates for the party in the 2020 general elections.

The two who won in the Northern region are the DCE for Kumbungu, Abdul Salam Hamza Fataw, DCE for Tatale, Thomas Mboaba whiles the DCE for Mion, Mohammed Hashim Abdallah lost to Musah Abdul Aziz Ayaba by only 35 votes.

Responding to a question on Zaa major news bulletin on whether the victory of the DCEs can affect their performances in the localities where they serve, the Director for Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS) in Tamale, Richard Kambota said it will rather put more pressure on the DCEs to perform better.

According to him, those who has parliamentary ambitions would want to work harder to be able to gain support of their constituents to get into parliament.

He however disagreed that, the victorious DCEs will compromise their offices all because they are now parliamentary candidates.
