Over 700 affected by rain within Tamale metro-NADMO reveals

Over 700 people within the Tamale metropolis have been affected by the torrential rain that has hit the northern region for almost two months now.

In addition, properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis, have been destroyed, the National Disaster Management Organization has said.

The number of victims, NADMO said, is likely to go up because figures are still being collected even as the rain continues.

The affected people are from 12 communities within the metropolis  flood-prone areas, namely, Nalung, Bilpela, Jakarayili, Kalariga, Lamakara, Gumani, Vittin, Sawaba among others.

Mr. Henry Dassah, the administrator of NADMO, Tamale metropolis, who disclosed this to Zaa News at Banvum during a day’s capacity-building workshop for staff, explained that NADMO does not list houses he called flash flood when it is taking records of affected people.

The workshop was to build the capacity of zonal coordinators and staff on administration and management of NADMO.

The administrator entreated residents, especially those whose houses are not badly affected to bear with NADMO when any assessment team visits their localities.

He also appealed to communities within the municipality to allow NADMO officials take down their names any time there is a disaster at least if not for immediate support but future support.

“It does not mean that if a house is flooded, NADMO will automatically list it as an affected victim and provide relief items,” he said.

NADMO, Mr. Dassah explained does not discriminate but rather focuses on the most affected when it is distributing relief items.
