Police arrest woman for allegedly asking soldiers to brutalize her brother-in-law

A woman believe to be in her thirties has been arrested by the northern regional police for her allegedly using military personnel to inflict brutality on her step-brother at Dohinayili in the Tamale metropolis.

The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Achempong who confirmed the arrest to Zaa News said the police have commenced investigation of the matter.

Her caution statement was taken and she was released on police enquiry bail, Superintendent Acheampong said.

According to reports, Mrs Sara Mohamud who is the younger sister of the Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development Dr Mustapha Hamid, had disagreements with Prince Sigli Mahamud, her brother in law on 6th October 2019 at their house at Dohinayili.

She reportedly threatened to deal with her step-brother. According to Mr. Mahamud, a few minutes after their disagreement, his sister in law went out and later came with two uniform military personnel and without any provocation he was beaten to a pulp.

According to the victim, the two military men told him that their actions were orders from above. He also alleged that the military personnel took his mobile phone and an amount 800 Ghana cedis from his room but later returned his phone.

Narrating his ordeal to Zaa News, Prince Sigli said, but for Allah’s intervention and neighbours, he would have been dead at the hands of the soldiers.

Prince Sigli is therefore pleading with law enforcement agencies to ensure that those behind his military brutality are brought to book.

Complaining of his pain in his ribs, Mr. Sigli said he could not understand why the military will interfere with a family issue. ‘I need justice, justice should be served, the security-civilian relationship is getting worse’, the victim stated
