Zoomlion commence disinfestation of over 80 Senior High Schools in 3 regions of the North

Waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana limited has commenced fumigating and disinfestation of over 80 both public and private Senior High Schools in the Northern, Savannah and North east regions.

The exercise was to get rid of bedbugs, germs and bacterial that has been health and safety challenge in the second cycle institutions in the country.

The company deployed its spraying gangs to four SHS in the northern region  on Monday at Northern School of Business (NOBISCO, Anbarriya Senior High, Presby and Tamale Islamic School.
Dormitories, washrooms, classrooms, libraries and offices were fumigated.


The SHS disinfestation exercise was an arrangement between Zoomlion and the ministry of education. 
The disinfestation aside bedbugs is expected to  contribute significantly in curbing spread of coronavirus in the various SHS.

Speaking to Zaa News at NOBISCO, Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Education Service Mr kanzoni Donald Awaala said even though schools are still closed due to covid-19, G.E.S hopes by the time schools reopens it will be safe for students.

‘You know coronavirus we are told spread through human contactwe are aware that schools are on vacation  and we can’t also tell when it will be reopening but  we are sure that if the exercise was successful by time the students come they would have clean environment to learn’, Mr Kanzoni stated.
Some of the students the PRO noted were badly affected by bedbugs but with the fumigation ahead of reopening the school will be save.

According to him, before theexercise, some schools used to do disinfections on their own with limited resources and less capacity compared to zoomlion.

The students Mr Kanzoni said will not face discomforts after the fumigation.

Northern Regional Manager of Savannah Waste Services, a subsidiary of Zoomlion Mr Dawuni Peter explained that  the essence of the exercise was to deal with bedbugs challenges and other insects.
The exercises Mr Dawuni said will continue until all SHS are fumigate and disinfected.

Head master of NOBISCO, Alhassan Issahaku Dokurugu described the exercise as refreshing and very useful in combating and controlling bedbugs.
The bedbugs bite of the 2876 students Mr Dokurugu said was a heavy burden and to authorities because already the dormetries are congested.

‘Over the years, is been a battle that school management has been fighting  to get rid of bedbugs; Infact they are a menace in our dormitories and we have often done our best to control their multipcations’, the head master recounted.
Students he added gets sick out of the bedbugs bite, they don’t get enough sleep or rest after the hard day’s work and they even  carried them into the classrooms.

The wellbeing of the students when they return to school will improve once the environment is clean for them., the head master stated.
