The New Patriotic Party Northern Regional Secretariat has denied media reports that its Chairman Daniel Bugri Naabu is under pressure to cough up GH 50,000 meant for the activities of the 31 constituencies.
Party officials said Mr Naabu neither diverted the money nor was he under pressure to cough up the money he allegedly spent.
The secretariat described the story published by an Accra based radio citifm as not only a conjecture but a side attraction without any merit that must be discarded by all and sundry.
A statement issued and signed by the regional director of communication Mohammed Abdul-Kudus explained that the last time the party held a meeting was on Friday 19 February, 2016. The meeting was highly attended by the executives and was successful. An agenda was adopted to inaugurate a regional campaign team and that has since come to pass. According to the statement, there was no discussion of any GH 50,000.
The statement further said the allegations constituted a wicked attempt to reduce the party’s momentum towards elections 2016. The party under the chairmanship of Mr Naabu, the statement noted, is more than poised and focused on the goal of winning more parliamentary seats and maximizing the votes of the presidential candidate come the general election.
The statement urged all journalists to check with the party on any burning story and desist from gossips that are mostly filled with half-truths.
The party the statement added cherishes all journalists and shall continue to operate an open door policy with all media houses. Zaa News sources within the NPP indicates that all executives who went to the party’s extra ordinary conference in Sunyani received money ranging from 5 hundred and one thousand Ghana cedis.
All those who received the money were made to sign against their names and the amount they took while in Sunyani. The remaining balance according to our source was used to purchase engine for Bugri Naabu’s broke down Ford four wheel vehicle which he use in running activities of the party in the region.
Our source also indicated that the chairman may be compel to publish names of beneficiaries if the machinations gear at tarnishing his image continues.
