Following the successful conduct of the District Level Elections (DLEs) on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, and the subsequent election of new Assembly and Unit Committee Members for various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) by the Electoral Commission, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies across the country are set to be inaugurated on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
The Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization, and Rural Development, in consultation with the Office of the President, issued a statement on Monday, January 22, 2024, for the inauguration of all MMDAs.
“All MMDAs are requested to take the necessary steps and hold themselves in readiness for the successful inauguration of the various District Assemblies. Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Coordinating Directors( MMDCDs) are directed to hold the fort and ensure smooth operations in all MMDAs until the new Assembly Members are sworn into office and all assemblies are duly inaugurated”, a government communiqué said.
Meanwhile, Regional Ministers have been tasked with taking responsibility of facilitating the successful inauguration of MMDAs in their regions on the slated date.
Further arrangements on the inauguration of the MMDAs will be communicated when the need arises. The statement concluded.
