The Northern Regional Youth Organizer of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Abdul Rashid Salifu COP has put his neck on the line should any of his party members disturb the peace in the region.
Alhaji Rashid COP said as the regional youth organizer he is now a ‘shrine’ and promised that no member of the party will embark on violence before, during and after the November 7 elections.
He also pledged that the NPP will not engage in vindictiveness if the party wins this year’s elections as many have expressed reservations about Ghana remaining stable and peaceful under their hands.
The NPP youth organizer assurances were a reaction to an observation made by the paramount chief of Sagnarigu traditional area, ambassador Yakubu Abdulai, allegedly from a grapevine that some political parties are listing people they intend eliminating should they win.
The Sagnarigu Naa entreated all political parties to let peace be their guiding principle as they canvass for votes ahead of November polls. He reminded the NPP parliamentary candidate, Habib Iddrisu, and the constituency executives who were in the palace to introduce themselves before going on a campaign, that development thrives in the atmosphere of peace and that should be their watch-word as they go about soliciting for votes.
“No one will pray for any political party that promises violence such as killing, burning of houses and de-skinment of chiefs which have become synonymous with some politicians especially when they realize they are likely to win,” the chief reminded politicians.
But Alhaji Rashid COP gave a firm assurance that he is in control of the youth in the party. “I have met several youth groups in the Sagnarigu constituency and had extensive discussions on the need for violent-free elections; everyone knows what my late father stood for when it comes to telling the truth,” Rashid COP noted.
Alhaji Rashid COP made the pledge at the Sagnarinaa’s palace when he led the NPP parliamentary candidate to the palace to seek the chief’s blessings before embarking on their campaign. The NPP youth organizer said the party has no intention of destabilizing the country as being peddled by its opponents. He also pointed out that with the current dialogue between the various political parties, he believes Tamale will remain peaceful after the elections.
He assured the chief that the NPP’s record and intentions in providing much needed development are obvious for Ghanaians to see and that the party will continue its good work should it take over governance of the country.
Alhaji Rashid COP commended Sagnari Naa for the congenial atmosphere created for all political parties to conduct their campaigns without fear, adding the party recognises and appreciates his leadership role.
