A Tamale man was on Wednesday remanded in custody by a Tamale circuit court for illegal possession of firearms.
Yussif Salifu, 26, was arrested at the Gushei barrier on board a Bawku-Tamale bound bus by the Savelugu police, after they conducted a search and found 302 AK47 bullets with two empty magazines in a bag allegedly belonging to the suspect, authorities said.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Office ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Zaa News that when the suspect was interrogated he said he bought the ammunition from somebody in Bawku a year ago, adding that the seller had traveled to Libya. He therefore decided to travel to Techiman where he had lined up a buyer for the ammunition.
Salifu reportedly gave authorities the name of the buyer but investigations by authorities did not turn up a buyer, ASP Tetteh said.
