A jealous woman, who was recently arrested at Bole in the northern region for allegedly dumping her rival’s seven-day-old baby boy into a toilet pit, has been brought to the Northern Regional Police Command in Tamale.
It is not clear what charges will be preferred against the suspect. The suspect identified as Mma Mariama, a rival of Mma Ajata the mother of the baby, both married to one Iddirisu is currently being held by the northern regional police for further interrogation over her actions.
Neighbours of the suspects said Mariama sneaked into the house of Ajato, who was then enjoying a Telenovela series at about 7.00 pm on Saturday, while the boy who was only outdoored on Saturday laid outdoors.
According to the neighbours, Mariama allegedly picked the baby when the mother was deeply engrossed in the series and dumped him into a pit of the public toilet at the market square.
Residents who suspected Mariama confronted her and upon interrogation, she admitted committing the crime. The police, with the help of sanitary officers retrieved the dead baby from the fecal matter.
