Four residents of Tamale have been remanded into prison custody by a Tamale District Court, presided over by Justice Anthony Assah for stealing, conspiracy and deceit of a public officer.
The four suspects, Mr. Alhassan Abdulai, a tricycle operator, and three security officers, Mr. Napari Musah, 25 , Mr. Sule Alhassan, 25, and Mr.Iddi Dana Yakubu, whom the tricycle operator allegedly connived with to steal PVC pipes from Querioz Galvao, a Brazelian construction company working on the Tamale airport upgrading project.
Mr. Abdulai according to police investigations bought the tricycle motor bike on high purchase from the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) and has been using it for criminal acts at construction sites.
He was charged with stealing and deeceit of public officer, contrary to Sections 124 and 25 of the Criminal Offences Act.
Thirty PVC pipes, valued at over two thousand, one hundred and sixty Ghana cedis,(2160 cedis) according to police, were stolen in the middle of January this year. The latest PVC pipes stolen were estimated by the police at three thousand and twenty four Ghana cedis(3024). All four suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges and will reappear in court on February 4, 2016 for a hearing.
Speaking to Zaa News after court proceedings today, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said it is the hope of the police that the suspects will be convicted to serve as a detriment to others.
According to ASP Tetteh, the activities of criminals have the tendency of crippling the upgrading of the airport which, when complete will benefit every Ghanaian.
ASP Tetteh told Zaa News that, the general service foreman of the company reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of the suspects.
