Two arrested for alleged attempt to smuggle wee from Wulugu to Kumasi

imageTwo young men who police said tried smuggling substances suspected to be Indian hemp to Kumasi were arrested on Wednesday.

The two, Mutala Mohammed, 25 and Salifu Kojeko, 27, were traveling from Wulugu, near Walewale in the West Mamprusi district of the northern region to Kumasi in a bus with registration number GT 3632 D.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Office ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the arrest to Zaa News, said police had a tip off and intercepted the vehicle around mile 9, near the Barwah barracks in Tamale.

According to ASP Tetteh, when police conducted a search of the vehicle they found 25 pounds of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in three sacks of charcoal.

The two suspects were subsequently arrested and brought to the Tamale police station for further investigations. ASP Tetteh indicated that the police will send the substance to the crime laboratory for authentication.

He added that once the police have concluded their investigations they will arraign the suspects before court.
