Over sixteen (16) pupils from various basic schools in the Northern Region on Friday collapsed during the 58th Independence Day celebration.

Over ten pupils collapsed at the Tamale jubilee park where the regional celebration was held while about six pupils also collapsed at Tamale Senior High School Park where Sagnarigu district celebration took place.

Both the national ambulance and the St John’s together with Ghana red-cross society responded promptly to the pupils and provided first aid.

Even though emergency service providers could not readily tell what might have led to the children’s collapsed, some suspected warm weather couple with hunger. Some of the pupils told Zaa News they went to the Jubilee Park as early as 7am local time without eating and the weather was not also favorable to them at the time of the parade.

Some of the pupils said even though Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah and the Big Six made a lot of sacrifice during the struggle of Ghana’s independence, organizers of Independence Day parade should have provided them with shades.

According to the children, it was wrong for organizers to make them stand for hours like the security personnel who have undergone vigorous training.
