The Islamic Education Unit (IEU) of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has introduced new syllabus for Arabic instructors. The syllabus was launched at a day’s workshop for Arabic co-ordinators in Tamale over the weekend. The co-ordinators were drawn from the central Gonja district, Yendi municipality and Tamale metropolis.
The aim of the syllabus is to guide Arabic instructors on what to teach at what time and at what level. The regional secretary of the unit, Alhaji Sulemana Alhassan said the absence of the syllabus in the Arabic sector has made teaching and learning difficult and that necessitated the initiative. He said the workshop is geared towards empowering the co-ordinators with the requisite knowledge about the new syllabus. Alhaji Sulemana added that the co-ordinators will in turn educate the instructors in their various locations on how to go by the syllabus.
Alhaji Sulemana hinted that the unit is preparing to enroll Arabic instructors and co-ordinators in sunwitch education programmes. He said the idea is to enrich the knowledge of Arabic instructors. Alhaji Sulemana urged them to participate in the programme with all seriousness when it finally starts.
The regional co-ordinator of the unit, Mohammed Al-Habib Daud said it is the duty of the co-ordinators to identify the hidden talents of teachers and encourage them to build on these talents. He encouraged the co-ordinators to establish good rapports between them and their subordinates so as to create a good and enabling working environment.
