The Dagbon Traditional Council has rescheduled this year’s Naaa Damba celebration scheduled to take place on Friday 9th January. The decision which was taken at the forecourt of the Gbewaa palace in Yendi said the Naa Damba will come off Saturday, the 10th January 2015.

This was contained in a statement issues in Yendi and signed by the registrar of Dagbon traditional council, Adam Gariba Mohammed and copied to Zaa News. The changes, the statement said was necessitated as a result of ‘koofie’ occurring on Friday 9th of January 2015.

Koofie it explained is observed when the market day in Yendi coincidental takes place on a Friday.  The statement further explained that, per the Dagbon customs and traditions, on every Friday Nayab Kuga-Na together with Nabel Zohe-Na joins His Majesty, the Ya-Naa or the regent of Dagbon at the Gbewaa palace to observe the day.

They make supplications on the day but when it occurs with market day, the ritual or any other traditional event for the day is temporarily suspended, hence the rescheduling of Naa Damba and the durbar of chiefs.

It said the last Damba ‘Damba Belkusi’ will be celebrated   on Sunday 11 January 2015. It is for this reason that, His Majesty, the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya-Na Andani Yakubu Abdulai who is also the Acting President of Dagbon Traditional Council effected the changes.

The Regent of Dagbon wished all sons and daughters of Dagbon a happy new year and a peaceful celebration of this year’s Damba festival
