Dr Abdulai Salifu Asuro inducted as the new rector of Tamale polytechnic

For the first time in its history, Tamale Polytechnic has swon in one of its senior lecturers as Rector of the school.At 52 years old and having served Tamale Tolytechnic for 12 years, Dr Salifu Asuro takes over as Rector from Alhaji Dr Yakubu Peligah whose tenure expired this past February.
In his welcome address, Dr Asuro thanked the governing council for the confidence   showed in him saying it is a great opportunity for him to contribute his mind to the development of polytechnic education in Ghana, especially the Tamale Polytechnic.
Dr Asuro identified quality leadership as the major challenge facing polytechnic education in Ghana to manage its inadequate resources, curricula and professional development, along with ability to initiate innovative ways to produce middle-level manpower to meet demands of industries.
Dr Asuro who describes himself as pragmatist promised to raise T-Poly to 21st century institution of excellence with information technology taking the centre-stage in its academic and practical training programs.He further promises to modify teaching and learning methods from what he called mere top-down bookish instruction system to building students' confidence towards practical delivery.
On the internal wrangling, Dr Asuro said he will facilitate meetings to bring all factions together to overcome the challenges and chart a new path for the development of the Tamale Polytechnic.He expressed dismay over the polarized nature of the institution and called for calmness for the betterment of mother Ghana.
The Chairman of the governing council of Tamale Polytechnic, Dr Seidu Mohammed Mustapha appealed to the new rector to use his experience of the polytechnic environment to build bridges between the perceived cleavages within the rank and file of staff in the polytechnic.  Dr Mustapha further urged him to adopt an open door policy to enable him to move the agenda of the polytechnic forward.
