Dr Sakara victory is a sign of victory for CPP in 2012


The Northern Regional Executives of the Conventions People’s Party (CPP) have described Dr Abu Sakara’s victory to lead the party  as a sign of victory for CPP in the upcoming general elections.
The executives believed Dr Sakara, as the flagbearer, would pull all the floating votes in the country come December 7. The 2008 Vice-Presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party, Dr Abu Sakara was elected on Saturday May 12, 2012 at the Esippon stadium in the Western region as the party flagbearer for the 2012 presidential elections.
Dr Sakara polled 1,130 votes, representing 55.2 per cent of the total votes cast, to beat his only challenger for the slot, lawyer Bright Akwetey who garnered 917 votes – representing 44.8 per cent of the vote.
Speaking to Zaa News shortly after the congress, the Northern Regional Secretary of CPP Iddisa Mumuni said the executives are proud of Dr Sakara for sweeping through the entire regions of the country and accepted as the flagbearer of the party.
Mr Iddisa said Dr Sakara’s victory would go a long way to motivate the party’s parliamentary aspirants to increase the CPP’s fortunes in the December polls.
According to him, the 2012 elections would be interesting because, the voting pattern in the ten regions would definitely change.  He added that both the ruling National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party need to be prepared for what he describe as “an interesting 2012 elections”.  
The Regional secretary gave the assurance that the executives would give their full support to Dr Sakara to put the party on sound footing.
He also commended the delegates for the peaceful manner during the congress and urged them to continue their support for the party.
The regional executives according to Mr Iddissa, have put in place mechanisms from all the constituencies in the region to strengthen the grassroots towards enhancing the CPP chances in both presidential and parliamentary elections.
