The First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama has reiterated government’s commitment to improving education in Ghana. The First Lady said government has placed a high premium on the infrastructure needs of schools in the better Ghana agenda.

First Lady Mr Lordina Mahama stated this when she commissioned a new 630 bed girls dormitory at Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale.

Mrs Lordina Mahama urged the students in GHANASCO to take advantage of the opportunity and work towards deriving the best opportunities the dormitory offers.

She entreated students to see the structural development in GHANASCO as an enabling atmosphere for serious studies and not for joking.

The First Lady who is an old student sympathized with students saying she had an experience of how accommodation, especially for girls, has been over the years and that the new dormitory is an appreciation to the infrastructural situation in GHANASCO.

The new dormitory, according to Mrs Lordina Mahama, will help GHANASCO deal with accommodation problems among students particularly girls who will get into boarding.

The first lady said it is government’s intention to make schools to become places of joy to be other than the street, which poses hazards and uncertainties to future leaders.

Mrs Lordina Mahama challenged authorities of GHANASCO to maintain the beauty and usability of the edifice for future generations to also benefit.

The First Lady also urged authorities of GHANASCO and other schools in the country to co-exist with neighborhoods for the security and safety of school properties.

The newly-constructed 630 girls dormitory’s foundation stone and periphery fence wall for the GHANASCO was laid on 20th November, 2010 by the then vice president, John Dramani Mahama and now president of the Republic of Ghana.
