Independent Parliamentary Candidate Establishes Poverty Reduction Fund


A former financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the northern region, Mr. Aminu Mobila has declared his intention to contest the Tamale Central seat as an independent candidate. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Zaa Radio in Tamale, Mr. Mobila said his priority will be to reduce poverty significantly particularly among women in the constituency.
He promised to establish what he called “poverty Reduction Fund” from the share of the MPs’ common fund to finance small scale enterprises for women to enhance their economic conditions. He said the fund which will be managed by an independent board will also support the development of the youth within the constituency to improve on their livelihoods. Mr. Mobila’s declaration brings to three, the number of people who will be challenging the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon Inusah Fuseini during the December elections.
Mr. Mobila who is stirring fierce political battle has began wooing market women, youth groups and engaging opinion leaders in the constituency to win their support for victory in December elections. He told Zaa Radio that, his interest to contest the seat is a response to calls by the youth and women groups in the constituency and the lack of development projects to support their livelihoods. Education he said will be among his priority, and that his administration will encourage social accountability.
He appealed to the youth in the constituency to rally behind him during the elections to enable implement his development policies gear towards poverty reduction, women and youth empowerment in the constituency.]]>
