Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening the decentralization process and improving local governance through democratic process in the country.
Moses Bukari Mabengba,Northern Regional Minister stated this at the Newly Created Tatale/Sanguli District in the northern region. This is the forth time since the inception of the decentralization policy in 1988.
He said the government's provision of nine thousand motor bikes and orientation programme for all assembly members is in fulfillment of the NDC government campaign promise to the people of Ghana.
Mr Mabengba said government is committed in bringing governance to the doorsteps of the people for accelerated development.
He therefore appealed to the Chiefs and people in the new district to participate actively in the development at the local level.
The minister said, the acceptance to the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC) recommendations that the President should nominate 5 persons to be interviewed by the public service commission out of which the top three would be voted for election in a public election by the registered voters in the district to elect DCEs demonstrates NDC’s commitment in deepening local governance process.
This, the minister said, would put to rest allegations of extortion of moneys by assembly members before voting to approve DCEs.
The new districts, according to the minister, have unique opportunities to be different. Mr Mabengba said  the NDC government is perturbed about the opposition in the process leading to the creation of the new districts because according to him, the same criteria and procedures were used to create Municipalities and districts in 2003 and 2007 without any opposition when the NDC  were in opposition.
