One hundred and twenty (120) women from 9 branches in Sagnarigu constituency have received GH¢ 200 each from the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu, Alhaji A.B. Fuseini. Out of the number, 90 are from Sagnarigu Township with the rest from other surrounding communities in the area.
The MP handed over some cash to the Sagnarigu district finance office for onwards disbursement to some of the beneficiaries. Others received cheque to cash their money to help them boots ttheir businesses.
The support, according to Sagnarigu MP, was to help the women engage in petty trading to enhance their livelihoods and also support their children’s education.
The support, the MP said, was in recognition of the massive support the constituency gave to the president, John Dramani Mahama in last elections. The cash support was from the MPs common fund and his personal effort in alleviating poverty among women.
The cash support initiative by Alhaji A.B.A targets 800 women by the end of the 2015. The MP has also secured financial support from Export Development Agricultural and Investment Fund (EDAIF) for the constituency.
The EDAIF support includes provision of Shea nut and rice processing machines for women groups from Sagnarigu, Wayamba and Gurugu processing groups.
Addressing the women at the Sagnarigu Chief palace on Friday, Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini said due to the budgetary constraint of Micro Small Loans Company (MASLOC), a few women have been supported through his effort.
The Sagnarigu MP who is also the Deputy Northern Region said the MASLOC budgetary constraint necessitated his initiative to devise means of assisting the over 200 women groups in the constituency to undertake petty trading and other business ventures.
The Deputy Northern Regional Minister described the women as the hardest working and industrious segment of Ghana’s population and any successful politician cannot leave them out.
