Unbearable stench has engulfed the casualty ward of the Tamale Teaching hospital forcing relatives of patients who call on them to leave earlier than usual.
The stench is borne out of faecal matter oozing out of a slab placed in front of the stores section of the casualty ward and along the maternity ward.
The slab is connected to the manhole that contains the faeces and once the manhole is full to the brim the faecal matter is automatically discharged.
Our editor Mahama Shayibu visited the hospital a while ago and reports that the reek is so disgusting that many people who come into contact with the environment there blame the authorities for not acting promptly.
A relative of a patient, Mohamed Sulemana Gomda described the scene as terribly bad and said flies are flying all over the place; a not too good spectacle. Another, Youssif Alhassan also described the scene as bad and called on the hospital authorities to do something about it. Hospital authorities were not available for comments.
The Chief Executive Officer and the Public Relations officer were both absent and those on duty would not speak.
This is not the first time the casualty ward is bearing this disgusting odor, according to onlookers. ]]>
