The Paramount chief of Tamale, Gulkpe Naa, Abdulai Alhassan has urged the people especially women in Tamale to desist from indiscriminate littering of the environment.
The Gulkpe Naa said dropping empty sachet water or yoghurt on the street of Tamale is unacceptable and called for attitudinal change.
Addressing a large crowd at the Tamale main taxi rank after National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise, Gulkpe Naa assured government that, the chiefs in the region will continue to support government initiatives geared at improving the welfare of the people.
According to him, it will be unfair on the part of the chiefs not to recognize developmental projects being embarked upon by government and urged government to continue its good work to enhance socio-economic standards of the people.
The Gulkpe Naa flanked by the Tamale Dakpema, Naa Alhassan Mohammed Dawuni called on the youth to always embrace peace because it is the prerequisite for development.
On his part, the Tamale Dakpema appealed to people who are bent on creating friction between him and the Gulkpe Naa to stop or be made to face disgrace.
Naa Alhassan Dawuni told the large gathering at the main taxi rank that, Gulkpe Naa is being his long time friend and no amount of effort can separate them from their long time friendship.
He said, they are traditional rulers who guide the people under their jurisdictions onto the right path and not play to the gallery of people who have no interest of the region at heart.
On sanitation, Naa Alhassan Dawuni said Tamale needs to be tidy always and expressed the hope that after today’s exercise the city will remain clean.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive for Tamale, Hanan Abdul Rahman Gundadow urged residents to cultivate the habit of cleaning their surroundings on daily basis. The Tamale Mayor also made a passionate appeal to the people in metropolis to protect the dustbins that have been dotted at vantage points in the Metropolis.
The mayor reminded the people that, the dustbins are meant for collection of rubbish and pleaded that people allow them to be where they have been positioned.
