Tamale polytechnic admits 2,330

Two thousand three hundred and thirty (2,330) students have been admitted into the Tamale Polytechnic to pursue High National Diploma (HND) program for the 2013-2014 academic year.

The figure according to authorities of the school represents a 31.4 percent increase over last year figure of 1,772 admitted students.  

A total of 3,159 have also been admitted into non tertiary programs.  Speaking at the 19th matriculation ceremony over on Saturday, the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Abdulai Salifu Asuro said the school will continue to introduce relevant and demand driven academic programs in line with their commitment to providing appropriate skills and knowledge.

 Dr. Asuro announced the school has introduced three new marketing driven programs which include HND information and communication technology, HND media and mass communication and Association of Business Managers and Administrators.  

On the increasing number applicants, Dr Asuro said in spite of increasing students’ intake this year, a good number of students are living in residential accommodation outside the polytechnic.

He however assured that works are ongoing for three hostels which can provide accommodation for about 500 students.

Staff accommodation, engineering laboratory, library complex he added are all at various stages of completion.  Dr Asuro commended government through GETFund for their support towards in infrastructural development of the polytechnic.
