We are committed to peace after SC verdicts-political parties declare

Political parties in the Mion Constituency of the northern region have assured the country of their full commitment to peace after the Supreme Court verdict.

The political parties say they are ever ready to maintain peace after the Supreme Court ruling which is due somewhere in the middle of this month.

The political parties made these commitments to climax a three-day community sensitasation durbar in the Tamale metroplis, Central Gonja and Sang districts of the northern region. The durbar was organized by the Ghana Developing Communities Association (GDCA) under a project dubbed; Supporting Women to Participate Election (SWOPE) at both local and national level under the auspices of the European Union (EU).  

Representatives of the various political parties in the Mion  Constituency also cautioned their members, especially the youth, not to do anything  that will disturb the peace Ghana is currently enjoying.

The Project Officer of SWOPE, Faidatu  Alhassan appealed to the communities to always remember that it is God who chooses a leader and under no circumstance should there be violence after the verdict.

The durbar she said forms part of GDCA’s efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence among communities in the northern region during and after the supreme verdicts. The political parties included NDC, NPP, PNC, CPP and PPP.

The Northern regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Alhaji Abdul-Razak Saani who was the resource person reminded the people of the region of the need to embrace peace because of precedence set in other parts of Africa.

 He said Ghana is in a critical moment and everybody needs to be careful in their utterances in order not to throw the country into chaos.

Alhaji Abdul-Razak further reminded the people to focus on educating their children while impressing on governments to provide them with the necessary social amenities to improve their living conditions.
