Close early for your own safety- Chief Supt. George Afari urges MTN MoMo vendors operating in Tamale Metropolis
The Tamale Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent George Afari has expressed concern about the business operators’ closing time in the Metropolis.
He said even banks with fortified security -CCTV, close at 4:30 and therefore, business operators dealing in cash should reconsider the time they close for their own safety. You and I, and the banks will even testify that even where they leave and work is a fortified environment with 24hr security, what time do they close? By 4:30pm all banks’ gates are closed except people who happened to be in the premises of the bank. Let’s instill discipline in people who transact business with us, if they get to know that by 4-5:30 you are closed, they will come earlier to transact their business with you before anything happens.
Speaking at the launch of MTN Ghana week celebration at the old Tamale taxi rank, Chief Superintendent, George Afari advised business operators, especially MTN MoMo agents to reconsider the time they close. His advice follows record gunman attacks on mobile money vendors leading to the death of some.
The police chief while assuring the residents and business operators stated that the division operational area is very large and therefore it is advisable that MTN MoMo agents do not set up their operation joints at obscure points where lighting system is not adequate.
He assured them that, the police are there 24/7 to respond to any security threats. “Where businesses are thriving in an environment the security of the operation this system must be taken care of’’, CSP Afari emphasized.
He advised both agents and customers to be very vigilant, alert, circumspect and upright about the activities of scammers to avert being accused of conniving with them. ’’we have a very large area to operate, in obscure corners where you yourself you know that your security is not the ideal thing, please don’t establish your joint at those obscure areas so that when the need comes and you call in the police, the police will be able to know which area you are located’’, CSP George Afari advised.
