15 member 2020 population and housing census committee inaugurated
The 2020 population and housing censuses District Census Implementation committee (DCIC), have been inaugurated for Tamale metro and Sagnarigu Municipality.
The 15 member committee members includes representatives of Information Service Department, the Ghana health service, Ghana education service, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Tamale metropolitan assembly coordinating director and a representative of Northern Regional house of chiefs.
The DCIC is expected to work closely with the four member technical regional team, assist in acquisition of offices for census activities, facilitate recruitment, and facilitate distribution of census logistics.
The committee is also expected to encourage community members to participate and facilitate mobilization of vehicles and motor bikes to support census activities.
The census which is carry out every in 10-years is use in formulating housing and programs as well as esure equitable distribution of resources among others.
Northern Regional Statistician, Mr George Agbanyo explained that data collection for 2020 census which is expected to commence on 28th June and will be done through technology known as ‘Computer Assisted Personal Interview, (CAPI) unlike in the past where it was manual.
Citizens who did not sleep at home on 28th June Christine ‘Census Night’ will be counted at lorry stations, hotels or market places will be counted there.
The new technology according to him will ensure quality because systems have been put in place to reject inaccurate information provided by respondents.
The census secretariat and the technical unit will manage the system.
The regional statistician also explained the basic critia for the recruitment of field officers for the census.
Municipal Chief Executive, Iddrisu Mariam on behalf of Tamale metropolitan chief executive assured that the two assemblies are ready to ensure the success of the census.
