Fifteen persons arrested by the Northern regional police have been granted bail by the Tamale district court two (2).

The court presided over by Mr. Justice Anthony Aduku Aiddo granted the bail with a sum of one thousand each with surety.

The 15 were among some 21 people arrested after Thursday’s renewed chieftaincy conflict in Bimbilla in the Nanumba North district of the northern region. Their reappearance is scheduled for February 27th, 2017.

The renewed clash was reportedly triggered by the enskiment of a warrior chief (Kambonaa) for Pusuga, a suburb of Bimbilla.

A member of the legal team representing the accused persons, Ms. Edina Ivy Adabayeri, told reporters that their application for bail was granted by the court. She added that the team will be ready to defend its clients on the adjourned date.

Several houses and food stuffs were burnt during the latest clashes. The  decision on who is the rightful overlord of Bimbilla has been a bone of contention for some years now with repercussions.
