Local Entertainment Chief granted police enquiry bail over removing corpse at mortuary without authorization

The Tamale Dakpema Entertainment Chief, Diema Naa, Mohammed Hafiz Abdulai has been granted police enquiry bail for allegedly removing a corpse without authorization from the mortuary at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), authorities said.

Two alleged accomplices of Diema Naa, Abdulai Mohammed, a TTH mortuary man, and Imoro Ibrahim, a driver, were arrested, The deceased who has not been identified, was contracted by someone at the Tamale Central Market to fix an electrical problem but was electrocuted.

While investigating the circumstances that led to the death, the police deposited the body for autopsy. But before the police could conclude their investigations, the suspects reportedly went to the mortuary, removed the body and hurriedly buried it unauthorized.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, who confirmed the incident to Zaa News said the accused persons were charged with hindrance of inquest.

The accused persons who were arraigned at the Tamale magistrate court presided over by Mr Anthony Assah pleaded not guilty to the charge. They have been granted court enquiry bail and will reappear on the next adjourned date.
