The Paramount Chief of Mion traditional area, Mion-Lana Alhaji Abdulai Mahamadu has called for peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups in the area.
The Mion Lana made the call at his palace when he held a “Peace Talk” with chiefs, elders and opinion leaders of Konkombas in the Mion Traditional Area.
This was done to quickly quell a widely circulated rumour of possible conflict between Dagombas and Konkombas since Friday 27th September 2019.
According to the chief, since last Friday when the romours started, his palace has received a lot of delegations from Konkomba communities and chiefs across the length and breadth of Dagbon.
He thanked all delegations from the Konkomba traditional area for helping to ensure that calm returns to the Mion Area.
The Mion-Lana pledged to end the era of Sambu Market Day disturbances and associated rumours beginning from tomorrow; Tuesday 1st October 2019.
The Mion-Lana, urged his ‘friends’ to help him cooperate with the Security to find lasting peace for the people and communities in the Mion Traditional Area.
He noted “this was my first time of experiencing such disturbances since my enskinment as the Mion-Lana for the Traditional Area.
I will not relent until we all collaborate to live together in peace; whether we are Konkombas or Dagombas.”
He further promised to keep close ties with the Chiefs and elders of Konkomba communities to ensure absolute peace reigns in the Mion Traditional Area.
He admonished them to ensure that tomorrow’s market day is observed without any incidence.
He assured the chiefs and opinion leaders he was going to hold more in-camera meetings with them to assist the Security to get to the root of all disturbances or any of such rumours.
He assured all traders within and without Mion Traditional Area to go on with their usual Sambu Market Businesses without any fear of Disturbances.
