NPP attempting a mass votes transfer in Northern region, NDC

People cast their votes in presidential and parliamentary elections

The National Democratic Congress, NDC has accused the ruling NPP of planning to illegally do a mass transfer of votes to the Nanton and Karaga constituencies respectively.

A statement issued by the NDC in Northern Regional said, “the Electoral Commission {E.C} in conjunction with the New Patriotic Party {NPP} is attempting to illegally transfer some NPP votes from the Tamale Central and Tamale South constituencies to karaga and Nanton respectively in furtherance of a plot to influence the outcome of the 2020 elections in those constituencies”.

The NDC says the attempt is in furtherance of a plot to influence the outcome of the 2020 elections in those constituencies.

They also said that, their intelligence has gathered that a meeting to that effect was held at the offices of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council earlier in this week where some Electoral Officers in the region were to be tasked to commence the illegal mass transfers so as to help the NPP parliamentary candidates in Karaga and Nanton to win their seats in the 2020 elections.

The statement signed by the deputy Northern Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Iddrisu Hardi Pagazaa said, the EC’s elaborate plan to help the NPP win some parliamentary seats in the region is being monitored and will be resisted at all levels within the confines of the laws of this country.

He therefore warned those who are planning to transfer their votes and subsequently travel from Tamale to Karaga and Nanton constituencies to vote on the Election Day to desist since their presence there would be fiercely resisted.

“We want to warn those who are planning to bus from Tamale to Karaga and Nanton constituencies to vote on Election Day to desist since their presence there would be ferociously resisted. These two constituencies are not dumping grounds for those desperate for parliamentary seats. We do not want the 2004 Jakpahi incident in the Tolon district to recur and the only way to avert that is for the E.C. and the NPP to discontinue this rather wicked and shameful rigging plan” the statement said.
