The President renominated Municipal Chief Executive for Yendi in the Northern Region has been rejected by the assembly members in the area. Alhaji Ahmed Yussif Abubakar is the first among the 16 nominees to have failed to secure two-third of the total elected assembly members for his approval.
He pulled twenty-one (21) votes out of forty -one (41) votes from Assembly Members present on Friday September 24, 2021.
The assembly has 30 elected assembly members and 11 government appointees. Out of the 30, 15 are said to be sympathizers to opposition parties.
The nominee has a second chance in a fresh election for his confirmation or disproval within in the next ten days. His second failure will mean that the president will have nominate another person.
President Akufo-Addo released names of nominees of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Executives (MMDCEs) to work in his second term.
The Minister for Local Government, Dan Botwe announced this at a press briefing on Sunday, September 19, 2021. The list was forwarded to the various regional ministers for their confirmation at the Assemblies.
Contributory factors
Some members of the governing party in the municipality have told Zaa News that the nominee human relations and performance in the last four years was not good.
The MP is reported to thrown his weight behind one of the applicants, Mr Zakaria Abubakari Sadiq whilst the Microfinance and Small Loan Ceneter CEO is said to be supporting the nominee.
Another possible reason the last parliamentary primaries acrimony and show of wealth among the then aspirants, Alhaji Faruk Aliu Mahama -current member of parliament for Yendi constituency and the then deputy CEO of MASLOC Hajia Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakariah who is also now appointed as substantive CEO affected the nominee.
