Musah Superior rumored to be the next mayor of Tamale



An aide to the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been penciled for the position of the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive position, high placed sources within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed to Zaa News.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Mr. Iddrisu Musah affectionately called Superior will be among the 26 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives Mr. Addo will announce in the coming weeks.
Mr. “Superior” was the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate in the 2012 elections.

He is one of the long standing aide to President Addo. He also served as the special aide to the dismissed NPP General Secretary, Mr. Kwabena Agyapong in 2014. During the NPP 2012 parliamentary primaries he was vetted through Skype while based in the United Kingdom.

He defeated two contenders, Mr. Ishmael Yahuza and Mr. Iddrisu Sunday to become the party’s parliamentary candidate. While in the UK, Mr. Superior used Facebook and Twitter to canvass for votes. He polled 278 votes while Mr. Sunday and Mr. Yahuza polled 129 and 38 respectively.

He, however, lost his bid in 2012 to represent the people of Tamale Central Constituency in parliament to his strongest contender and current member of parliament Alhaji Inusah Fuseini.

The activist when confirmed will take over from Alhaji Hanan Abdul Rahman Gundadow whose four year tenure under former President Mr. John Dramani Mahama came to an end on 13th January, 2017.

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) were directed by a letter signed by the president’s representative at the ministry of local government and rural development Hajia Alima Mahama to hand over duties to coordinating directors for further directions. He is expected to head an assembly composed of mainly men. It has 41 elected male members and no female representative except government appointees.

Waiting challenges for new mayor 

Among the major challenges for Mr. “Superior” when confirmed after his nomination by assembly members at the Tamale metro will be the decongesting of the central business district to ensure sanity in the streets of Tamale, find solution to youth indiscipline as well as putting an end to school going children roaming the streets at odd hours.

Last but not least, Mr. Superior will also to have to deal with the Sakawa menace, an Internet fraud popular among some young people in the metropolis.
