Police identifies 884 hotspots ahead 2020 elections in N/R

Eight hundred and eighty-four (884) out of 1,943 polling stations in the Northern Region have been identified by the Northern Regional Police as hotspots.
The police say even the 884 has been zoned in their operations ahead this year’s general elections, it considered almost every polling station as a hotspot.

The police command has also assured that the regional election committee has been activated since the last district assembly and unit committee elections.

Northern, Eastern and Bono regions are on the raider of security agencies and Ghana’s Electoral management body ahead 2020 general elections.

Northern Regional CID officer, Superintendent Kwabena Otuo Acheampong disclosed this at a  Forum organized by Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) under the auspices of Star-Ghana for selected journalists.

The forum was to remind journalists on Conflict Sensitive Reporting and Hot Spots identified by the electoral commission and the police in elections ahead of 2020 elections under GJA project; ’’No to Political Vigilantism and Electoral Violence in Ghana’’.
The 14 month project is being sponsored by Star-Ghana foundation.

The regional crime officer  revealed that, massing up at police stations when a suspect was  arrested remains a major challenge facing police in the region and appealed to journalists to educate citizens on need to coperate with them.

The practice he noted poses serious challenges during enforcement of the law and order and called for maximum cooperation.
Superintendent Acheampong said such acts is not helpful especially, in election year.

The police in the region he added are poised to carry out their lawful duty without fear or favor.
