A former deputy Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hajia
Hawawu Gariba Boya has declared her intention to contest the Sagnarigu seat on the ticket of National Democratic Congress.
Hajia Boya said, she will pick nomination forms should the party open nominations in the constituency.
According to her, she is not sure if the incumbent Member of Parliament Alhaji A.B.Fuseini will contest again but should he say otherwise, she will take over from him.
in 2012, the incumbent MP, Alhaji A.B.A defeated Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba, who polled 10 votes with polled 112 votes.
But Hasjai Boya, who is also a former Deputy Minister of Women, Gender and Children, told Zaa News that, Ghana’s quest to become a developed country will never be achieved, if the major political parties continue to relegate women to the background.
Ghana, she added, is marking time and the earlier men carry women along in all aspects of life, the better for Ghana.
Hajia Boya, who was speaking on Sunday, after the inauguration of the NDC Tamale Central constituency women’s wing, could not believe the number women in Ghana’s Parliament is 36 which is about 12.75% far below, and not to up 20%.
The governing NPP has 24, while the opposition NDC has 12. This, Hajia Boya observed, is an acceptable and all women in Ghana must join hands to ensure that they use their numbers to their benefit in every election.
Women, she added, are not begging to be part of the decision making process but are part of the developmental agenda of Ghana.
She pleaded with women, especially within the NDC, to forget about differences and personal interests and work collectively to ensure victory for the party, come the 2020 general elections.
On the NPP government fulfilling its campaign promises, Hajia Boya said the NPP is messing up Ghana big time. She could not understand why even feeder roads within urban areas and major roads linking areas where food stuffs come from are terrible and yet its focus is on an interchange.
The interchange, she said, is likely to worsen the plight of traders because after the fun fair, no education on how traders within the areas where interchange has been constructed, will trade.
The interchange, Hajia Boya said, is good for Tamale in the near future but not at the time petty traders, mainly women, are struggling to get three square meals a day.
She said, if the government fails to put the Tamale central market into good shape and is rather engaging in projects such as an interchange, then they should prepare for the negative social impacts it will bring.
The former deputy minister of women, Gender and children asked the government to also pay attention to school- going aged children roaming during odd hours.
