Confusion has hit the district Office of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in the Sagnarigu constituency in the northern region. Two people are currently claiming the position of the acting district director.
The two men vying for the position are Mr. Seidu Hudu and Mr. Haruna Abdul Rashid and the whole brouhaha seems to revolve round appointment letters that were issued to the men.
Supporters of Mr. Hudu, a former regional accountant who had the initial appointment letter, on Monday gathered at the office and dared Mr. Rashid to come and occupy the office.
This is not the first time such confusion has racked the structured agency. Two months ago, a similar incident occurred in the Karaga district where a constituency secretary of the NDC nearly ousted the acting district director.
To calm nerves, a directive came from Accra instructing the regional director of the agency to apologize to the acting director.
The deputy northern regional minister was allegedly mentioned as the one behind Mr. Rashid’s appointment. Zaa News sources in the district indicated that the regional NDC chairman, Sofo Azoka, the regional director of the YEA, Mr. Abdul Rashid Tanko and the deputy northern regional minister were booed by some youth who suspected that the bigwigs were in the Sagnari Naa’s palace over the YEA appointment.
To avert violent confrontation in the district, the Coalition of NDC youth groups in the Sagnarigu constituency says the development is dangerous and needs prompt attention by the party leadership and the YEA regional director.
The youth are therefore calling on the northern regional chairman of the NDC chief Sofo Azoka to intervene immediately before it degenerates into chaos. According to the youth, two persons cannot occupy the same position as acting district directors of YEA.
The Sagnarigu NDC youth coalition said they support Mr. Hudu who they say was the first person to be appointed as acting director. The youth explained that Mr. Hudu worked with YEA as regional accountant for four years before he was appointed to take up the position.
The youth could not understand why Mr. Rashid was also appointed as acting district director. A statement signed by the coalition executive members lamented what they called too much polarization in the constituency and that if care is not taken, the NDC will lose the Sagnarigu seat.
When contacted, the Northern Regional Director of YEA Abdul Rashid Tanko Computer declined to explain in detail what led to the confusion. He told Zaa News that what happened at the agency can happen in any public institution and that it was an administrative issue which he was not liberty to publicly comment on.
Meanwhile, Mr. Haruna who was reportedly got the second appointment letter assumed office on Wednesday in spite of the controversy. He told Zaa News that he assumed office per the appointment letter signed by the regional director. Zaa News read the letter and it explicitly asked the acting director, Seidu Hudu to proceed to the regional directorate for reassignment.
