Angry youth of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency have vandalised the Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna official office and the constituency office of the NDC.
The youth vandalism was to protest against Alhaji Limuna’s decision to step down in the NDC primaries slated November 7.
The angry youth who were on vandalism spree demonstrated through some principal streets of Damongo chanting; ’No Alhaji Muniru, No vote for the NDC’, ‘let’s practice democracy in NDC’ ‘we have suffer for long, Alhaji must pick the form’ amon others.
The youth accused the Minister of stabbing them at the back after they had signed a social contract with him with all assurance to contest primaries.
Spokesperson of Friends of Alhaji Limuna, Asumah Sherif affectionately called Pororo told Zaa News the youth will not relent in their effort of ensuring that Alhaji Limuna rescinds his decision of backing out from the contest. Only last week, Alhaji Limuna took his supporters by surprised when he announced to them through his personal assistant phone from in Brazil that he has withdrawn from the contest.
The minister who after spending his birth holidays in his home town (Damongo) was reported to have galvanised strong support base to oust the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Adam Mutawakilu.
However his ambition to represents the people of Damongo was crashed down by the president, John Dramani Mahama who openly during commissioning of the Fofulso-Sawla road told a large gathering that, the people in the area must thanked their MP for his instrumentality during his tenure as DCE in ensuring that the road was in good shape.
The president comments according to political pundits were enough notice for anyone with ambition to contest the Hon. Mutawakilu to abandon the idea.
But the youth says Alhaji Limuna’s announcement without reason is disappointing. They have also accused the president of exerting pressure on Alhaji Limuna to step aside and warn to vote against the NDC if the minister did not pick his nomination form.
The Damongo District Police Commander, ASP Opoku Agyemang Prempeh described the youth violent action as abrupt which took the police by surprised. ASP Opoku accused youth from Busunu and Larabaga of being the perpetrators of the act.
Zaa News also gathers that the youth have prepared to extent their anger to disrupt todays district level elections process in Damongo. But ASP Opoku says the election will come off smoothly because there is enough men on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Personal Assistant and Campaign Manager of the Northern Regional minister, Dramani Ecomog has condemned Friends Of Alhaji Muniru (FOAM) violent action to register their displeasure against the minister.
Mr Ecomong described the path chosen by the youth as gross insubordination and that violence is not a solution in addressing grievances in the NDC.
Mr Ecomog has therefore made passionate appealed to the angry the youth to abandon all their violent actions intention for the interest of party cohesion.
The minister personal Assistant in an interview with Za News expressed shock and surprise at the turn of events in Damongo after he and some other party members had appealed for calm among Friends of Alhaji Muniru.
